David Thayer, M.D.

David O. Thayer, M.D. specializes in women’s health care and has been practicing in Boulder since 1985.  He was the senior partner of Boulder Obstetrics and Gynecology, P.C. for many years, and together with several physicians and a talented group of Certified Nurse Midwives, delivered several thousand healthy babies to both private and uninsured patients of the Front Range region.  The practice was well recognized as unsurpassed in providing compassionate birthing of moms and babies, but also intelligent and respectful care and service for women.  Both then and now clients come from many counties in Colorado, a multitude of U.S. States, and several countries and continents to seek his advice and gentle manner.

In December, 2000 David "retired" from the 24/7 excitement and stress of delivering babies and supervising midwives to focus his attention on the non-pregnant women of his practice.  Upon the urging of colleages and staff, The Thayer Group for Women's Care, P.C. was created to emphasize the shift in priorities.  He had already been developing his skills as a "minimally invasive " surgeon and now worked to advance the options available to his Colorado and extended clientele.  He is enthusiastic when he describes the transformation to the Thayer Group.  "The best and brightest women's health care practioners have joined me to create this unique practice that is totally focused on every aspect of women's health.  They are constantly challenging me to stay at the cutting edge of knowledge."

David still describes himself as " a surgeon that tries to help his patients avoid surgery."  But for those patients that need surgery, the minimally invasive techniques reduce the risks and speed the recovery.  It is now unusual for any of his patients to need the more "primitive" old style surgeries.  Even hysterectomies are routinely done as "band aid" type surgeries (another name for minimally invasive techniques) and are usually done as outpatients - meaning no overnight stay is necessary.  In 2007, several of his patients became the first in Boulder County to have the tremendous advantage of the "da Vinci Robot" to assist their surgery.  (See Links to learn more)

His clients quickly recognize he has a different approach to providing medical care.  David has a passion for helping people.  He spends the time to know his clients and tries to truely understand their needs.  He says he feels blessed when he discusses his career.  "Helping people maximize their health potential is unbelievabely rewarding.  I enjoy the interactions with my clients so much it doesnt seem like work,"  He has frequently been the guest speaker at events in Boulder County, speaking on a variety of topics involving women's health.  One of his favorites is updating audiences on Menopause and Hormonal treatments, including bioidentical therapy.

David was raised in Erie, Pennsylvania and practiced in Cortland, New York until his move to Boulder in 1985.  His medical education, internship, and residency were completed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Hartford, Connecticut.

David is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology.  He is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, a member of the Colorado Medical Society and the Boulder County Medical Society, and the Colorado Gynecologic and Obstetric Society.  He has operating priveleges at Boulder Community and Foothills Hospitals, the Longmont Surgery Center, and the Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland.

David has two grown children.  He loves the active life style that Colorado provides and participates in a variety of challenging outdoor activities and sports.  He has captained the "C.C. Riders" team in the Courage Classic biking event, raising money for Children's Hospital in Denver for several years.  He also enjoys movies, reading and wood working.

David says:
“I am very committed to providing the best health care available.  I realize that my personal philosophy of health care sometimes runs counter to what insurance companies are willing to provide.  I want to educate women as to what the best and safest options are, so they can knowingly make well informed decisions.  I do not work for insurance companies.  My commitment is to my client.”

Teri Smith,Office Manager

I’m Teri the office manager at the Thayer Group for Women’s Care. I oversee the operation of the office on a daily basis. I’ve had twenty five years of experience working within the healthcare setting.

I am a mother and grandmother and when I am not at work I try to spend as much time as I can outdoors in our beautiful state, camping and fishing.

It is a joy to be working among such a caring and competent staff. As a staff, we really do strive to give you the best healthcare available. Many of our clients have been with the practice for more than twenty years. To me when a client stays with a practice that long, it shows how much she trusts and depends on us to help her with their healthcare needs. It is quite common for the Thayer Group to provide care for different generations within the same family. It is a great compliment to us when a client entrusts her daughter and/or her mother to us for healthcare.

We thank all those clients we have cared for through the years. We welcome new and former clients to the practice.

The Thayer Group hopes you will see why we are such a special women’s healthcare facility.

Sincerely,

Teri
