David Thayer, M.D.

Dr. Thayer moved to Boulder in 1985 and introduced the first and most successful obstetric practice with hospital-based certified nurse midwives. Several thousand babies later, he transitioned to focus solely on gynecology in 2000 and introduced minimally invasive surgical techniques to Boulder.

Dr. Thayer is a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist, a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, a member of the Colorado Medical Society and the Boulder County Medical Society, and the Colorado Gynecologic and Obstetric Society. He was the primary motivator in bringing the da Vinci robotic surgical system to Boulder and then performed the first robotic surgical procedure in Boulder County in 2007.

He now focuses his energy and talent on helping women prevent health problems and ultimately avoid surgery. He specializes in evaluation and treatment of bleeding issues at any age, and unraveling and solving the hormonal mysteries that produce so many symptoms both before and after menopause. He speaks to public audiences on a variety of women's health topics.


Karen Kaufman, M.D.

Dr. Kaufman has provided comprehensive care for women in Boulder since 2001. She consults with women of all ages, focusing on hormonal imbalances, infertility, and peri-menopausal and menopausal issues.

She believes in a holistic approach to providing sound medical care. This includes getting an understanding of a patient's lifestyle, generics and nutrition while incorporating the traditional medical care with natural and alternative therapies.

Dr. Kaufman is a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist, and a consultant of Planned Parenthood. She graduated from the Case Western Reserve Medical School and completed her residency at Northwestern University.


Tamara Lester, B.S.N., W.H.C.N.P.

Ms. Lester has been a member of the Boulder medical community for more than 40 years, and is a certified nurse practitioner in women's health care. She combines medical and holistic approaches to care for the whole woman, and has expertise in contraceptive management and bio-identical hormone therapies.

Ms. Lester began her career in the Maternity Department at Boulder Community Hospital in 1974, and moved to the Emergency Department in 1980. She returned to women's healthcare in 1990.



Traci Shahan, R.N.-C., W.H.C.N.P., C.N.S., N.D.

Ms. Shahan is a board certified women's health nurse practitioner (WHNP-BC) and a clinical nurse specialist (CNS), both of which are Advanced Practice Nurse designations registered with the State of Colorado. She graduated cum laude with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, and earned her Doctorate in Clinical Nursing in 1998.

She regularly volunteers her skills as a WHNP both locally and globally, having traveled to Nepal to serve the Nepalese women. She is proficient in gynecology, first trimester obstetrics, gynecologic ultrasonography and reproductive endocrinology and infertility.


Charmaine Haravey - Practice Manager

Charmaine was hired in November 2013 as the Thayer Group prepared for the transition to Electronic Health Records (EHR) with Athena Health. Recognizing her organizational skills, she was offered the newly created position of Practice Manager in early 2014. She holds a bachelor's degree from University of California, San Diego and brings to the practice decades of experience in a variety of industries, including the health-care subset of disability case management. Her broad knowledge and experience base in business, accounting, communications, technology and human resources management all come into play at the Thayer Group. With patient care the number one priority, she works to offer a compassionate and complete healthcare experience, from beginning to end.


Linda Caddell - Billing Specialist

Linda earned her Associates Degree in Medical Billing and Coding from IBMC. Previously, Linda was a Manager and Supervisor in retail sales. Linda's kind and patient nature allows her to provide answers and support to our patients with any billing needs. She finds that being with The Thayer Group gives her the opportunity to work alongside medical professionals, increasing her confidence in her career.


Debra Gibson - Medical Assistant

Debra has been a LPN and childbirth educator in the medical field since 1980. She has years of experience working in OB/GYN, and was formerly an Instructor with Front Range Community College in their Nurse Aide Program. Debra brings a calm, warm presence to The Thayer Group and has always enjoyed working in the medical field - especially in women's healthcare.


Manessa Ross - Medical Assistant

Manessa joined The Thayer Group initially as an extern with IBMC College's Medical Assisting program. Manessa has been in the medical field as a QMAP/Med Tech for over ten years focusing on elderly care.

Manessa is excited to transition to women's health care and has always been fascinated by this speciality. Her caring and compassionate nature makes her a great part of our MA team.


Wendy Stark - Medical Assistant

Wendy graduated from Front Range Community College with an Associate Degree in Medical Assisting and a Certificate in Medical Administration. She has enjoyed her mid-life career change and working in an environment devoted to complete and quality women's healthcare.


Carla Hernandez - Medical Receptionist

Carla brings a variety of administrative, office and customer service experience to our Front Desk. New to the medical field, she is excited to gain experience working with providers and patients helping with their everyday needs. Carla is bilingual in Spanish, and her smiling and energetic presence is a great fit for our busy front office.


Amie Kuntz - Medical Receptionist

Amie joins The Thayer Group with years of medical assisting experience in cardiology and family practice. Amie earned her Medical Assisting Diploma from Everest College and is a nationally Certified Medical Assistant. Her calm and professional demeanor is enriched by her upbeat personality and quick wit. Amie goes the extra mile to make patients feel comfortable and cared about while they are in our office.

Lois Willhour - Certified Ultrasound Technician

Lois brings specialized skill and experience to the Thayer Group for Women’s Care. She performs ultrasound exams in our office. She has been working in the specialty of obstetrics and gynecology, including infertility care, since 1986. Lois has been with the Thayer Group since 1993.

Not only is Lois an excellent ultrasound technician, she has other talents too. Lois is a skilled artist. She creates beautiful handmade quilts.

The Thayer Group appreciates Lois and all the experience and skills she brings with her.



Kate Harding, R.N.C., N.P.

Kate Harding is a Registered Nurse, and Nurse Practitioner. She is also a Certified Biofeedback Therapist. She has been working in the field of women’s health care since the mid-seventies. She is originally from Chicago and has lived in Boulder for more than twenty-five years.

Kate received her basic nursing education in Chicago and her nurse practitioner education at the University of Colorado School of Nursing in Denver. She has worked with Dr Thayer, on and off, since he started his practice in 1985.

Kate is passionate about teaching. It is her goal to be a true advocate for the health and wellbeing of her clients. She actively listens and is committed to providing skilled individualized health care with respect, kindness and acceptance.

Kate says being a grandma is the best! She loves to laugh, spend time with friends and family, garden, read, and play with her dog, Lindberg.


Sat Tara Kaur Khalsa, MS, LPC

Sat Tara offers psychotherapy at the Thayer Group for Women. She received her B.A. from Smith College and her Master of Science Degree in Marriage, Family and Child Counseling in 1974. Since that time, she has been in the mental health field in a variety of settings. In 2002, she developed her model of Integrated Women’s Sexuality, a model that honors the physical, emotional, relational and spiritual complexity of a woman’s sexual response. She is particularly delighted to offer a gentle but powerful form of Neuro-Emotional Processing called “Brainspotting”. She has taught Kundalini Yoga and Meditation since 1972, combining it with psychotherapy to create Personalized Wellness Programs. Sat Tara has received extensive training in Mediation, Neuro-Linguistic Programming, Eriksonian Hypnotherapy, Brainspotting, E.M.D.R. and various other modalities. She is the author of numerous CDs, articles and a book entitled Divorce Survival and Recovery. For seven years of her career she worked as a social worker handling hundreds of cases of child abuse and sexual abuse. In private practice, she has assessed hundreds of cases regarding custody and divorce issues. She is a former faculty member of the Institute for Advanced Dispute Resolution. Sat Tara has been actively involved in community service through a group she founded five years ago called the Women’s Global Forum, a consortium of over 100 organizations and individuals doing international work. She has also worked extensively in Collaborative Law and community mediation. She is the past president of Women Caring for Women.

Sat Tara is married to her wonderful husband and has two awesome grown children. She lives and works in Boulder, Colorado. She particularly enjoys the outdoors and photography. Sat Tara has been a Sikh since 1972. She speaks several languages and has an interest in other cultures.


Erin Livers, ICNT

Erin Livers, ICNT (Integrative Clinical Nutrition Therapist) is a multi-faceted nutrition therapist and health educator. Her integrative approach to nutrition therapy combines Nutritional Anthropology, Functional Medicine, Chinese Medicine, Guided Imagery, and Intuitive Counseling. While the foundation of her counseling is diet, she also incorporates nutrition supplements, herbal medicine and cooking instruction. She has dedicated her career to helping people discover how to nourish their body with food and nurture themselves in all aspects of life. Her philosophy is food as medicine: how our diet creates the foundation of our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health.

In sessions, individuals, couples or families present their health goals and Erin takes a history to gain a comprehensive understanding of each person. This allows her to create customized recommendations to achieve long-lasting benefits. She helps people to lose weight and maintain it, improve digestion, relieve fatigue, sleep soundly, improve memory and concentration, balance mood and hormones, improve skin blemished by acne and eczema, improve PMS, relieve headaches, and more. Her clients feel better about their relationship to food and eating. They also learn how to save time when shopping and how to prepare healthy meals with renewed inspiration.

As a certified LEAP practitioner, she specializes in helping clients with chronic conditions related to food sensitivities, allergies and intolerances such as Ulcerative Colitis, Crohn’s disease, Celiac disease, GERD, IBS and other digestive issues, Interstitial Cystitis, migraines, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, ADD/ADHD, eczema, sinusitis, ear infections and others.

She currently teaches nutrition and health-related subjects at Bauman College, a school for holistic nutrition and culinary arts in Boulder. She also provides education to the public through her many classes, workshops and seminars. She is committed to teaching others as well as continuing her own education in holistic health. Erin resides in Boulder, where she tends vegetables, herbs, fruits and flowers in her organic garden before cooking and eating them.
